The Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve located in southeastern Ontario, Canada. The biosphere reserve was designated in 2002, and is one of 16 biosphere reserves in Canada. [1] [2] The Frontenac Arch Biosphere operates primarily within a 2,700 km 2 region from Brockville to Kingston, extending north to Verona and Perth.
Frontenac Provincial Park is found just north of Sydenham in the shield rock and sits atop the Frontenac Axis, a part of the shield that extends south and eventually crosses the St. Lawrence River. Mica mining was common in the 19th century and there are many abandoned mines in the area.
Big Salmon Lake is a lake in Frontenac Provincial Park in eastern Ontario. It lies in the Frontenac Axis and is the largest lake in the park. It is a long, narrow shaped lake, accessible by the main road into the park and by many hiking trails. Despite the name Big Salmon Lake, there are no salmon in the lake.
