Mexico–Belize border at Consejo. Consejo is a village in the north of Corozal District, Belize. [1] Consejo is located on a point of land where the bays of Corozal and Chetumal meet. Consejo is about 8 miles (12.9 km) from the district capital of Corozal Town, and 2 miles (3.2 km) across the water from Chetumal, Mexico.
Corozal Town, the main centre of the District, is peopled by a mix of Belize's races and cultures, most notably the Maya Mestizos. Spanish and English are the major languages spoken. [citation needed] Calcutta, Estrella Village, Libertad, Ranchito, and San Antonio are populated by East Indian people and speak English and Spanish very well.
Corozal Bay is an inlet of Chetumal Bay, indenting northern Belize. Several resort areas are located on the coast of the bay, most notably Corozal Town. The New River (Belize) flows north into the bay. The town of Consejo is located north-northeast of the bay, on the much larger Chetumal Bay. The Mayan ruins of Cerros are located on the bay.

The Caribbean Shores constituency was one of 10 new seats created for the 1984 general election. Caribbean Shores occupies the north end of the peninsula Belize City sits on, bordered by the Freetown and Fort George constituencies to the south. The constituency has an extensive shoreline on the Caribbean Sea, hence its name.
