Shinji Ikari (Japanese: 碇 シンジ, Hepburn: Ikari Shinji) is a fictional character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise created by Gainax. He is the franchise's poster boy and protagonist. In the anime series of the same name, Shinji is a boy abandoned by his estranged father, Gendo, after the mysterious death of Shinji's mother, Yui.
Yui Ikari, Shinji's mother, is still alive and working at Nerv along with her husband Gendo. She is the head scientist in the place of Ritsuko Akagi . Gendo and Shinji's relationship is less negative and has a more competitive nature; the two usually attempt to outdo the other.
Yui Ikari (碇 ユイ, Ikari Yui) is Shinji's mother [323] [324] and Gendo's wife.
