That being said i buy a chinese tire that used by all the trailer manufacturers here and i have never had a problem, but i baby them and check the pressures all the time..my 15 inch d rated tires cost me 48.00 each the Maxxis run closer to 80-90 each but they are better tires. not sure if they still are but they were the only usa made trailer ...

An "LT" tire is the same rating as "ST" and can be used as such. Passenger car tires can be used, but the weight ratings are less. As far as I know, it is not illegal to use a passenger car tire on a trailer. Its not recommended, but it is legal. para informacion en espanol, regresar a mexico.
So I took the boat out wednesday and had a pefect day...until halfway home when a tire disintegrated; They were Marathons and I'd gotten 8-10 years out of them...Parked inside, check inflation every trip(48-50 psi). So I've seen threads on this topic before- Marathons suffer tread seperation...
Car tires have better flotation (not the water type) versus stiff sidewall trailer tires. Make sure that the boat and trailer is less than the loadrange of the tires. Say boat and trailer weigh 3800#. For 4 tires, your load rating should be over 1000# per tire. (most exceed this) And balance them!
Use carpet on the contact to the boat points. Just think of were the boat sits on the trailer and that will explain how to build. Remember most of the weight of an 18ft jet is in the last 8 to 10 feet of the boat, Slide or pull ( engine in or out ) off the trailer and onto the dolly. By the way, soapy water helps the transition part.
