The United States Marine Corps Officer Candidates School (OCS) is a training regiment designed to screen and evaluate potential Marine Corps Officers.Those who successfully complete the period of instruction are commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the United States Marines.
The Basic School (TBS) is where all newly commissioned and appointed (for warrant officers) United States Marine Corps officers are taught the basics of being an "Officer of Marines." The Basic School is located in Stafford County, Virginia to the south-west of the Marine Corps Base Quantico complex.
The mission to train officers and warrant officers was tasked to the newly formed Delta Company. The Communication Training Battalion now holds all 06XX (Communications Occupational Field) training for the Marine Corps with entry level enlisted training under its Bravo Company and SNCO and Officer training under the Delta Company.
The Training Command is responsible for the production of officer and enlisted entry-level Military Occupational Specialty, career progression, and career enhancement skills, with control over all formal training schools throughout the Marine Corps, including Officer Candidate School, The Basic School, Schools of Infantry and various other formal schools.
Students at these academies are organized as cadets, and graduate with appropriate licenses from the U.S. Coast Guard and/or the U.S. Merchant Marine.While not immediately offered a commission as an officer within a service, cadets do have the opportunity to participate in commissioning programs like the Strategic Sealift Officer Program (Navy) and Maritime Academy Graduate (Coast Guard).
The United States Marine Corps Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) is a system of categorizing career fields.All enlisted and officer Marines are assigned a four-digit code denoting their primary occupational field and specialty.
