Slough / ˈ s l aʊ / is a town and unitary authority (Borough of Slough) in the English county of Berkshire, just to the west of Greater London. Until 1974 the town was in Buckinghamshire .
After the war, several further large housing developments arose to take large numbers of people migrating from war-damaged London. Between 1955 and 1957 the town was the site of the Slough experiment, a large-scale road safety trial. [18] The old Slough library was opened on 28 November 1974.
The parishes of Slough and Stoke-in-Slough were both urban parishes and so were not given their own parish councils, but were directly administered by Slough Urban District Council, which replaced the Slough Local Board. The parish of Stoke-in-Slough was abolished in 1896, with the parish of Slough enlarged to cover the whole urban district. [3]

Slough's first local authority was a local board, established in 1863. [3] Such boards were reconstituted as urban district councils in 1894. Slough Museum is an independent museum in Slough in the English county of Berkshire. It had two exhibition galleries presenting the past, present and future of the town. It is now situated in the Slough Trading Estate with an exhibition curated in partnership with SEGRO highlighting the history of the trading estate.
