The Arizona State Fair is an annual state fair, held at Arizona State Fairgrounds. It was first held in 1884, but has had various interruptions due to cotton crop failure, the Great Depression era, World War I & World War II years & the COVID-19 pandemic. From 1946 to 2019 and since 2021, the fair has been held annually.
In 1839, the State Agricultural Society was organized to establish a statewide fair, and state fairs were held in Columbia from 1841 to 1845 and again from 1856 to 1861. In 1869, the State Agricultural and Mechanical Society of South Carolina was created to sponsor a state fair.
It is currently used yearly to host the Arizona State Fair and the Maricopa County Fair, as well as for other events. The Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, an arena at the fairgrounds, hosted the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association from 1968 to 1992. In 1992, the team moved to what is known today as Footprint Center
