Hindu woman in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh wearing a bindi. A bindi (from Sanskrit bindú meaning "point, drop, dot or small particle") [1] [2] is a coloured dot or, in modern times, a sticker worn on the centre of the forehead, originally by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists from the Indian subcontinent.
Its extremities are all elongated and slender. Each subarticular tubercle on the pointed fingers and toes spans the breadth of the digit. The infratympanal line serves as an identifying feature. Three little black spots are scattered across its brown back. The fingertips, dorsal thigh, lower back, and groin all have white spines. [2]
The adults have a body colouration with variances of grey and beige, with darker blotches variable in size on the body. Small black spots cover the whole body. In comparison, juveniles have fewer of these black spots than adults, but the spots can be larger, or as large, as their eyes. [ 4 ]
