José Rizal University (formerly José Rizal College or JRC), also referred to by its acronym JRU, is a private non-sectarian, non-stock coeducational basic and higher education institution located in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines. It was founded in 1919 by Don Vicente Fabella, the Philippines' first certified accountant.
The JRU Heavy Bombers and Lady Bombers are the National Collegiate Athletic Association varsity teams of the Jose Rizal University. The university's juniors team are the JRU Light Bombers . The Heavy Bombers basketball team also plays in the PBA Developmental League .
JRU (JRC then) captured the NCAA crown which up to this date is the last time José Rizal won a championship. Years later the two teams again figured in a mini rivalry, San Sebastian's Paul Alvarez and José Rizal's Vergel Meneses figured in a PABL Slam Dunk contest in 1987 in which Meneses won the contest.
