In 2004, Florida Governor Jeb Bush appointed Barber to the Hillsborough County Circuit Court. Barber was elevated to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida by Charlie Crist in 2008. [1] He was most recently re-elected to a new six-year term in 2016. [4] His state court service ended when he was commissioned as a federal judge.
He was an assistant state attorney of Hillsborough County in 1973. He was in private practice of law in Tampa from 1974 to 1986. He was a Judge of the Hillsborough County Court in 1987. He was a Circuit Judge, 13th Judicial Circuit of Florida from 1988 to 1993. He was an Appellate Judge, Second District Court of Appeal, from 1993 to 1997.
