Whitesburg is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Letcher County, Kentucky, United States. [3] The population was at the 2020 census [ 4 ] and an estimated 1,711 in 2022. [ 5 ] It was named for John D. White , a state politician and Speaker of the United States House .
