The Wisconsin Cheeseman is a privately held mail-order food gift company operating in Monroe, Wisconsin.Established in 1946, the company publishes several catalogs and emails each year to promote its line of over 300 products, consisting of Wisconsin cheese, sausage, chocolates, fruitcakes, petits fours, cakes, cookies, fresh fruits, nuts, breads and other assorted food gifts.
The company was incorporated in January 1903. Cooper, a sleeping partner, sold his share of the business in 1914, but the Lewis & Cooper name remained. [3] The company has sold hampers since 1936. [9] The customer base began to dwindle by the end of the 1970s, due to the rise of the supermarkets. [10]
The cooperative ran into additional controversy in 2004 with its attempted enforcement of the Tillamook Cheese and Bandon Cheese trademarks against local businesses such as Tillamook Country Smoker, a purveyor of jerky and smoked meats for over 30 years. The creamery tried to stop the meat company from using the name "Tillamook".
