Jannali is located 28 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. The majority of land use in Jannali is residential and bushland reserve, while the suburb is bisected by the north–south railway line.
Sutherland Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the southern region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.Sutherland Shire is located approximately 26 kilometres south-southwest of the Sydney central business district, and comprises an area of 370 square kilometres (140 sq mi).
Thomas Holt (1811–88) owned most of the land that stretched from Sutherland to Cronulla, including land on the point. In 1840, parish maps also showed that 20 acres (8.1 ha) of land on the point were owned by Francis Mitchell. The public school opened in 1957, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007. [2]
Oyster Bay was part of the Thomas Holt Estate of 12,000 acres purchased in 1861 by Thomas Holt (1811-1888), pastoralist and at one time, Colonial Treasurer of New South Wales. His estate covered most of present-day Sutherland Shire. Parish maps dating from 1880 show Scylla and Carina Roads clearly dissecting the area known as Oyster Bay.

Cronulla School of Arts Est 1904. The Cronulla School of Arts was established in 1904. The original wooden building was demolished and replaced by the current School of Arts building in November 1912 and is now one of the oldest buildings in Cronulla. The post office opened on 1 September 1886 and a school began classes in 1887. In 1906, the shire of Sutherland was proclaimed and the name Sutherland was officially declared. The first meetings were held in the shire clerk's home and the Council Chambers were built in 1915. [4] By the 1920s, steam trams operated between Cronulla and Sutherland.
