The individual eventing competition of the equestrian events at the 2023 Pan American Games was held from October 27 to 29 at the Granaderos Regiment Equestrian School (Escuela de Equitación Regimiento Granaderos) in Quillota, Chile.
The eventing competition features all 65 riders competing in three rounds (dressage, cross-country, and jumping) with the top 25 advancing to a second jumping round. Scores from the first three rounds are summed to determine finalists; scores from all four rounds are summed to give a final score for the finalists. [4] [8]
The jumping test had two rounds. After the first jumping round, the teams results were determined. Both jumping rounds counted towards the individual results. Only the top 25 horse and rider pairs (including ties for 25th) after the first jumping round (adding the three components) competed in the second jumping round.

The competition is broken down into an individual and team competition for each discipline, for a total of 42 medals awarded. There are three members per team and one reserve rider in the dressage, and up to 4 team members in the eventing competition with only the top 3 member's scores taken for the final results.
