The light stands on the southern side of the entrance to Charleston Harbor, north of the City of Folly Beach. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] At 161 ft (49 m), it is the tallest lighthouse in South Carolina. [ 4 ] The lighthouse was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
There is a self-guiding brochure available and interpretive wayside exhibits posted throughout the fort. Guided tours are offered daily at 11:00 am and 2:30 pm, based on staff availability. The center offers an orientation film and museum exhibits about American seacoast defenses from 1809 to 1947, and the history of the first two forts. [6]

The museum was born out of an idea by former naval officer Charles F. Hyatt to develop a major tourist attraction on what had once been a dump for dredged mud. [1] Initial plans for the museum called for a large building onshore to display exhibits related to the history of small combatants ships in the U.S. Navy. [2] On 3 January 1976, the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown was opened to the public.
The South Carolina Aquarium, located in Charleston, South Carolina, opened on May 19, 2000, on the historic Charleston Harbor.It is home to more than five thousand animals including North American river otters, alligators, great blue herons, owls, loggerhead sea turtles, lined seahorses, jellyfish, pufferfish, green moray eels, horseshoe crabs, sea stars, and sharks.
