Lake Travis High School has more than 200 academic courses including 25 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and 30 Pre-AP/Honors courses. [6] The school also offers students membership in more than 50 student clubs and organizations. [7]
The school is named for United States Marine Corps First Lieutenant Matthew Ryan Vandegrift, who was killed in action in Basra, Iraq in 2008. [2] The school's first year of operation, 2009, was at adjacent Four Points Middle School, and it then transferred to the Vandegrift campus at the start of the 2010 school year.
Lake Travis ISD covers approximately 118 square miles (310 km 2). Its boundaries are the Travis/Hays county line on the south, the shores of Lake Travis to the north, the Pedernales River to the west, and Lake Austin and Barton Creek to the east. Incorporated communities in the district include Bee Cave, Briarcliff, Lakeway, and The Hills.
