"Girlfriend Is Better" is a 1984 song by new wave band Talking Heads, from their fifth studio album Speaking in Tongues. The song's single version was a live version, recorded at Pantages Theatre , Hollywood , from the soundtrack of their 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense , named for a lyric from the song.
An alternative mix of the song, featuring prominent guitar playing by Robert Fripp, was released on the 2005 compilation Talking Heads and the 2005 expanded CD reissue of Fear of Music. At 4:07 this version of the song is longer and does not fade out as early, with extra verses that are not heard in the original.
Remastered versions of these three tracks were later issued on the digital-only release Bonus Rarities and Outtakes in 2006. This box set marked the first CD release of "A Clean Break", a 1977 live recording from 1982's The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads. However, that album was remastered and reissued in 2004 as a two-disc set.
