On February 3, 2017, it was announced that CBS had greenlit production of a pilot episode of a television series inspired by the 2003 film adaptation of the 1970s ABC series S.W.A.T.. [24] The pilot was written by Aaron Rahsaan Thomas and Shawn Ryan [25] and directed by Justin Lin. The new series was ordered by CBS on May 12, 2017.
