The following is a list of colleges and universities in the U.S. state of Georgia. Many of these schools have multiple campuses. Most public institutions and traditional private institutions in Georgia are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The school was founded in 1969 as the Chattanooga Area Vocational Technical School. On July 1, 1981 the AVTS became a part of Chattanooga State. In 1996 the Tennessee Board of Regents renamed the AVTS to the Tennessee Technology Center at Chattanooga. In 2013 TTC Chattanooga was named the Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Chattanooga.
Howard was the first public school in the Chattanooga area. [1] The name is drawn from Civil War General Oliver O. Howard, as is Howard University.The school was founded under the leadership of Reverend E. O. Tade. Reverend Tade worked extensively in establishing a ministry in the Chattanooga region, being employed by the American Missionary Association and the Freedman's Aid Commission. [2]
