Church of Sarchi Sarchí is Costa Rica's most famous crafts center. The town offers more than 200 stores and small family-operated woodworking factories producing wooden bowls and other tableware, fold-up rocking chairs of wood and leather, and a wide variety of kitschy items.
The golden age for the oxcarts was from 1850 to 1935. [1] [2] [4] Painting and decorating oxcarts began in the early 20th century, when each region in Costa Rica began creating its own design allowing for identification when in transportation. [5] Then, cow herders began hand-painting their own oxcarts in addition to their identification designs.
The museum contains the largest public display of Lotus Ware, an award-winning fine porcelain ware produced only for a short period in the 1890s by the Knowles, Taylor, Knowles pottery of East Liverpool.
