Karoonjhar Mountains (Sindhi: ڪارونجھرُ جبل , Urdu: کارونجھر پہاڑیاں) are located in south-eastern edge of the Tharparkar district in Sindh, Pakistan. The range is approximately 19 kilometers long and reaches a height of 305 meters, and contains vaste deposits of granite and Chinese clay.
The Karoonjhar hills cover 16 miles in the south of Nagarparkar taluk. The granite stone of this mountain is used for making tiles. There is a saying that the Karoonjhar hills provide 1-1/4 kilos of gold every day in the form of red granite stone, china clay, and honey. In summer, different sounds are audible from the rock due to sulfur deposits.
The Bhodesar Temple is at the base of the Karoonjhar Mountains. Bhodesar, 4 miles from Nagar, [9] features the ruins of three Jain temples. [9] Bhodesar was the region's capital during Sodha rule. Rooplo Shamtoji Kolhi [1] fought against the British Rulers in Karoonjhar Mountains at Nagarparkar of District Tharparkar, Sindh. His birth name was Rupaji Gohil. The British hanged him on 22 August 1858 with his companions. [2] His anniversary is celebrated on August 22 every year by a faction of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz. [3]
