Erskine Academy is a private high school located in South China, Maine that serves eight surrounding towns. The campus occupies about 25 acres (100,000 m 2) of land and includes several academic buildings as well as various athletic fields. The school's motto is "Mens Sana in Corpore Sano" (A Healthy Mind In A Healthy Body).

Located between Augusta and Waterville, South China sits along the shores of its namesake, China Lake. It is an hour and a half from both Bangor and Portland . Maine State Route 3 runs through the major part of the town, leading west to Augusta and east to Belfast , and U.S. Route 202 (Lakeview Drive) connects South China with China.
China is part of Regional School Unit 18 (China, Rome, Belgrade, Sidney and Oakland). China students are given the choice of attending any public high school including nearby schools in Winslow, Waterville, Augusta and Oakland. There is also a private high school, Erskine Academy, in South China.

There are 19 school districts (however, 4 are consolidated ones). In China Maine, there is no public high school, but a private school (Erskine Academy) exists, and the town pays for students tuition if they choose to attend. Students from Vassalboro can pick from one of four school districts (Cony in Augusta, Erskine, Winslow, or Waterville).

The Clark Homestead is located on the west side of China Lake, a Y-shaped body of water that extends north–south across much of the rural community. The main feature of the 15-acre (6.1 ha) property is the surviving farmhouse, a single-story wood-frame structure.
