The hotel was operated by the French Sofitel chain from 1992 [4] to April 1, 2001 [5] as the Sofitel Cambodiana. [6] It was purchased by The Royal Group in 2005. In 2016, plans were announced to demolish the building and construct a 20-story replacement. In 2019 new plans were announced to replace the hotel with a 600-meter skyscraper. [7]
Sokimex was founded in 1990 by Oknha Sok Kong, an ethnic Vietnamese Cambodian businessman. [2] The main offices are located in Phnom Penh.. The Sokha Hotel Group opened the Sokha Beach Resort in Sihanouk Ville on 8 April 2004, followed by the opening of Sokha Angkor Resort in Siem Reap on 8 December 2005.
After the 17th century the Siamese took over Battambang Province and Siem Reap Province in a successful military campaign. Battambang Province and Siem Reap province were established under Siamese rule as part of Inner Cambodia. They were known in Thai as Phra Tabong and Siammarat respectively; Srey Saophon was known as Sisophon.
