An EF-4 tornado first touched down in southwestern Tennessee and traveled 165.7 miles to Falls of Rough, Kentucky, tracking through 11 Kentucky counties, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado crossed into Kentucky near the community of State Line and rapidly intensified to EF4 strength as it struck Cayce at about 9:00 p.m. CST (03:00 UTC), where major damage occurred to homes, businesses, a school building, and the town's fire station. A few buildings were leveled or swept away.
