The Franklin Falls Historic District is a 75-acre (30 ha) historic district encompassing most of the civic and industrial heart of Franklin, New Hampshire, which saw its most significant development in the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th.
New Hampshire currently has 24 National Historic Landmarks; the most recent addition was Lucknow (Castle in the Clouds) in Moultonborough added in 2024. [1] Three of the sites— Canterbury Shaker Village , Harrisville Historic District , and the MacDowell Colony —are categorized as National Historic Landmark Districts .
Franklin is located in northern Merrimack County at (43.446956, −71.656966 [4]According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.2 square miles (75.5 km 2), of which 27.5 square miles (71.1 km 2) are land and 1.7 square miles (4.5 km 2) are water, comprising 5.95% of the town. [5]
The Sulphite Railroad Bridge is located about 0.7 miles (1.1 km) east of downtown Franklin, and about 350 yards (320 m) south of US Route 3, and crosses the river at a point where its banks are quite steep; it is not readily visible from any roadway, but may be seen from the Winnipesaukee River Trail.
