Illinois Route 7 (IL 7, Illinois 7) is a northeast–southwest state route in northeastern Illinois. Currently, IL 7 runs from U.S. Route 6 (US 6) at Rockdale north through Joliet, and Crest Hill into Lockport, and then east to Orland Park before terminating at IL 43 in Worth. IL 7 runs for about 28.06 miles (45.16 km). [1]
From 1963 to 1965, the tollway was marked as US 30 Toll and ran along modern-day I-88, I-294, and the present-day IL 394 (which in 1963 was called IL 1 until 1964, when it became IL 394). The East-West Tollway portion was renamed to IL 190 in 1965 and eventually became IL 5 before becoming I-88 in 1988.
In 1936, much of IL 27, IL 44, and IL 69 were replaced by current US 52 as well as portions of IL 2 south of Dixon, IL 49 south of Kankakee, and IL 116 east of L'Erable. [2] [3] Between 1936 and 1940, US 52 originally bypassed Joliet via parts of present-day IL 47 and IL 113. [4] In 1940, US 52 was rerouted through Joliet to Kankakee.
In 1946, IL 213 was renumbered IL 171, still connecting IL 4A in Summit to US 34 in Lyons. This is the first appearance of the modern IL 171. [ 2 ] In the mid-1960s, as part of the construction of the new Stevenson Expressway , IL 171 was upgraded to a freeway between Summit and Lyons, including its interchange with I-55.
Interstate 55 (I-55) is a major north–south Interstate Highway in the US state of Illinois that connects St. Louis, Missouri, to the Chicago metropolitan area.It enters the state from Missouri near East St. Louis, Illinois, and runs to U.S. Route 41 (US 41, Lake Shore Drive) near Downtown Chicago, where the highway ends, a distance of 294.38 miles (473.76 km). [2]
