Introduced in May 1997, the concept arose out of rebranding former Fairfield Suites properties, which featured an all-suite layout, into a brand of its own. [3] The 34 properties (six managed and 28 franchised) in 1999 grew to 153 by 2006.
The Candlewood Suites chain was started in 1995 by Jack Deboer, founder of the Residence Inn and co-founder of the Summerfield Suites chain. The first hotel was built on North Webb Road in Wichita, Kansas, United States, and opened in 1996. From 1995 to 2003, Candlewood Hotel Company franchised and managed hotels throughout the US.
Springfield was founded in 1847 around the Orange and Alexandria Railroad's Daingerfield Station; this is today the Backlick Road Virginia Railway Express station, located off Backlick Road. The area was named for "Springfield Farm", owned by Henry Daingerfield, an Alexandria businessman who sat on the railroad's board of directors.
