The East Haddam Historic District is a 110-acre (45 ha) historic district in East Haddam, Connecticut representing the historical development of two 18th-century settlements of the town on the east bank of the Connecticut River, Upper Landing and Lower Landing. The district is linear and runs along Route 149.

The name Hadlyme was formed of a combination of the names of the two townships in which it is located: Haddam and Lyme. [2] East Haddam was incorporated as a separate town from Haddam in 1734. Moodus had many local resorts that operated during the course of the early and mid-20th century. During the summer seasons of the 1940s and 1950s, people visiting the more than 30 Moodus-area resorts quadrupled East Haddam's population to about 20,000 people. Nearby Bailey Beach on Bashan Lake was popular with local residents and vacationers alike.
On July 6, 1900, the town of East Haddam held a celebration commemorating the bi-centennial of the town as well as the dedication of the newly relocated schoolhouse. The day's ceremonies included the turning over of the schoolhouse from the New York Society of the Sons of the Revolution to the Connecticut chapter of the organization.
