Problems with E-One. 07-15-2009, 11:18 AM. We at the Cottleville Fire District are having serious issues with our E-One apparatus. More specifically we are experiencing electrical problems, front and rear suspension issues, paint issues, etc. Unfortunately, E-One is unresponsive to our concerns and will not stand behind their product.
We went over the new Re-Gen system that is being put on new diesel engines. There is an option on the system where you can select to have the truck Re-Gen itself while you are going down the road as long as you are above 1100 RPMs. The rep said that this prevents the need to shut down. 07-01-2004, 09:08 AM. It comes as no surprise to me personally, under the management of E-One, the annoucement of closing the E-One NY "Saulsbury" plant and several other Federal companies. Their financial perfomance accross all Federal companies shows (public information on Federals website) that they are in HUGE trouble.
12-28-2004, 09:46 AM. There seems to be some confusion on this topic. In the 1990's, E-One built a handful of wierd looking fire engines called the "Daytona". Built with a poly (plastic) outer skin, they offered a steeply raked front windshield, suicide doors on the cab, and roll-up compartment doors on the body that had a "European" flair to them.
05-13-2001, 05:15 PM. My department is committed to Pierce. We have purchased more than 15 aparatus over the last 25 yrs, with no major problems that were not resloved. By contrast, a neighboring department recently ordered 13 vehicles from E-ONE (7 quints, 2 rescues, 2 tankers, 2 brush trucks).

We have 2 spurts, a 100' aerial, and getting ready to purchase the 75' meanstick quint. Manuals They supply the manuals in electronic form on a CD. They have an option for printed manuals. Someone in your department got the Cd's when the truck was delivered. Contact E-One Service Department with the Shop Order number or VIN number on the drivers door post and they will probably send you a copy of the CD.
My previous volunteer department had two E-One apparatus that were bought at the same time. Both are on Spartan Gladiator chassis because E-One didn't offer raised roof custom cabs at the time. The rescue is a 1991 LFD cab with a 24" raised roof. E-One 18' walk-in rescue body. It also has a 300 gallon water tank and a Hale 250 gpm pto pump.
1998 Quint: Multiple problems over the years. Caught on fire in the station the other day--- E-One wiring. 1996 quint: Has had 5 transmissions. Currently occasionally won't go in gear and have to restart to go--- Transmission maker 1999 quint: Electrical short in the dash driving down the road a few years back filled with smoke.--E-One wiring
E-one is a great company that is VERY well run, that build poor examples of fire apparatus. The fire service needs to learn the difference. Running a business, especialy one that is selling to the municipal market has very little to do with building a quality product. It is only a half a step diagonally from selling to the millitary.
