It runs west concurrent with US 41 until Powers, and from there 21 mi (34 km) west to Iron Mountain. US 41 connects with Marquette 66 mi (106 km) to the north and with Powers 24 mi (39 km) west before turning south to Menominee.
Escanaba Township is a civil township of Delta County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,496 at the 2020 census, down from 3,482 at the 2010 census. [3] The City of Escanaba is south of the township but is administratively autonomous. Both are named for the Escanaba River.
At about that time, a stockholder's corporation, supported in part by local businessmen, formed to construct a new hotel in the city. The Delta Hotel opened on January, 1914, and served as Escanaba's best hotel for many years. [2] In 1922 the hotel was sold to Clyde J. Burns, an Escanaba businessman and politician. [3]
The WGLQ transmitter is co-located on the WJMN-TV tower which is located 30 miles north of Escanaba (approximately 5 miles south of Trenary, Michigan) along U.S. Highway 41. HMS Frolic was an 18-gun Cruizer-class brig-sloop of the Royal Navy.She was built by Boole, of Bridport and was launched on 9 February 1806. Although she took part in the capture of Martinique, Guadaloupe, and Saint Martin, she appears to have had an uneventful career until 8 October 1812, when the American sloop-of-war USS Wasp captured her after a fierce fight. In 1897, the Escanaba River Company built a seven-mile (11 km) railroad from Wells, Michigan, to tap a large hardwood timber stand at LaFave’s Hill. [2] In 1898, the company name was changed to the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railway (E&LS).
