Tran Anh Hung Trần Nữ Yên Khê (born March 18, 1968) [ 1 ] is a Vietnamese-born French actress married to the director Tran Anh Hung . [ 2 ] She has appeared in all his films, with the exception of Norwegian Wood , Eternity and The Taste of Things .
It was Tran Anh Hung's first feature film and stars his wife, Tran Nu Yên-Khê. It is also his first collaboration with Vietnamese composer Tôn-Thât Tiêt who subsequently wrote the music for two more films: Cyclo and Vertical Ray of the Sun. Although set in Vietnam, the film was shot entirely on a soundstage in Bry-sur-Marne, France.
For his graduation project in 1987 he wrote and directed a short film La femme mariée de Nam Xuong, inspired by an old Vietnamese folk tale (Truyền kỳ mạn lục). Following this Hung made another short film, La pierre de l'attente (1989), before launching the feature film The Scent of Green Papaya (1993).

The film premiered on 24 May 2023 at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, and was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in its main competition section, where Tran Anh Hung won the Best Director award. It was released in France on 8 November 2023. The film was chosen as the French entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
