Or IMAX laser which is what kind of projector Bob Bullock has. There are many IMAX branded products out there in the film industry. Then you have the specific movie standard of “IMAX” or “IMAX 70mm” which technically really means 1.43:1 aspect ratio shot on 70mm film which only 31 screens in the world and 19 in the country are capable of.
Bob Bullock is the only real iMAX screen in the Austin area - they just weren’t sent a 70mm iMAX film reel, as theyd need a special projector. The only 2 theaters with that capacity are in SA and Dallas. Bob Bullock used to have a 70mm projector, but they got rid of it for the digital projection.
Here's the list of IMAX theaters in the area. Dune is one that I'm really looking forward to seeing at IMAX. REGAL GATEWAY & IMAX 9700 STONELAKE BLVD, AUSTIN, TX 78759 IMAX, THE BULLOCK TEXAS STATE HISTORY MUSEUM 1800 N CONGRESS AVENUE, AUSTIN, TX 78701 AMC BARTON CREEK SQUARE 14 & IMAX 2901 CAPITAL OF TEXAS HIGHWAY, AUSTIN, TX 78746
Haven't gone that far out. But Bob Bullock is the only true IMAX screen in the Austin area, maybe even Texas? I could be wrong there, it's possible Dallas has one as well. So whatever that Temple IMAX is, it's still a liemax and will be disappointing in comparison. Likely better than a normal theater but by how much varies a lot from liemax to ...
Bullock has the biggest screen in the entire state, except for domed IMAX theaters. And the screen can support the proper IMAX aspect ratio to ensure nothing is cropped from the images as they were filmed. Aside from a 70mm theater which is rare (19 in the USA), it's one of the best places to watch a movie.
RailTrain. Auckland Event Cinema is currently 27m width, and 25m high. Or for any 70mm or IMAX Laser theater for that matter? I like sitting in the center, at around the 4th or 5th row in a regular theater. It covers….
I saw Oppenheimer 70mm at the Dallas Cinemark 17 and it was an incredible experience. Just saw Dune 2 at the Bob Bullock IMAX in Austin and it was really good but not quite the same. I don't know if it was because Oppenheimer was 70mm or the fact that I like Oppenheimer more. Also its a smaller theater but the seats are closer to the screen at ...
Arrive early as f ck for tickets and early as f ck for seats. And plan to be packed in like a sardine... Kinda off topic I've been several times to the Bob Bullock IMAX theater and I've never figured out how to get to the toilet. The current ticketing system does not support reserved seating.
IMAX corporate has a film slate. These are the ONLY new releases available to IMAX theaters. The venue (in this case the Bob Bullock Museum) can choose to pass on a movie with cause (for example, most institutions like museums skip R rated movies). Contracted number of shows also play into it.
Hopefully it’s calmed down now but we went 45 minutes early the first week it came out and the line was all outside - pretty long! I think 30 should be okay, but maybe slightly earlier to be safe? The weather is gorgeous at least and not as cold as our wait! The movie was incredible and Bullock is such a great place to see it - enjoy!!
