The Quartz Mountain Resort Arts and Conference Center is a resort located 17 miles north of Altus in the Wichita Mountains of southwestern Oklahoma, United States. It is two and a half hours from Oklahoma City, four hours from Dallas, near the Texas border and 9 miles (14 km) west of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma on State Highway 44A.
The original Quartz Mountain Lodge was built in 1955. It had 44 rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a tennis court. A 9-hole golf course was built in 1959 and expanded to 18 holes in 1993. An electrical fire destroyed public access areas of the lodge in 1995, but spared the wing with rooms.
Quartz Mountain (also called Baldy Point) is located in Greer County in southwest Oklahoma. It is the namesake of Quartz Mountain Nature Park and the park boundaries enclose its eastern flank. It is near the cities of Mangum, Oklahoma and Altus, Oklahoma .
The new Quartz Mountain Lodge was completed in 2001. Quartz Mountain Resort, Arts & Conference Center consists of a main lodge facility offering 118 rooms, a performance center, outdoor amphitheater and 11 cabins. The lodge was recently rebuilt after a fire destroyed the original lodge.
In 1927, Lake Altus (now Lake Altus-Lugert) was created at the base of the Quartz Mountains. In 1935, a 148.3-acre (0.600 km 2) tract adjoining the lake was declared Quartz Mountain State Park. This tract was bought by citizens of Altus who donated it to the state for use as a park.
