The levels -3 and -4 contain two north–south-oriented platforms serviced by routes 2, 3, 5 and 6. The platform on the -3 level is serviced by trams going south to Diamant, or west to Opera, using the central railway triangle under Antwerp Central Station. The -4 level is used by trams going north toward Deurne, Wijnegem, Merksem and Luchtbal. [2]

The network began construction on 5 January 1970 and was originally intended to become a fully underground network similar to the Brussels Metro or German Stadtbahnen (light railways), with a length of 15 km (9.3 mi) and comprising 22 stations.
Following silting of the Zwin channel in the 16th century, Antwerp grew in importance as a North Sea port and developed into a flourishing metropolis. Important sites include the Gothic cathedral (with the belfry already listed as a World Heritage Site as a part of the Belfries of Belgium and France .) and the Grote Markt (guild houses pictured).

Tram route 5 is a tram route in Antwerp running from Linkeroever to Wijnegem that is operated by the Flemish transport company De Lijn. The modern route was put into service on March 4, 2006, initially connecting Linkeroever with Deurne. The tram route uses the Antwerp pre-metro between the stations Van Eeden and Schijnpoort. [1]
