The official opposition in India includes the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha and the current opposition leaders in the legislative assemblies and legislative councils of the Indian states and union territories.
A speaker is the presiding officer of the Lok Sabha and of the legislative assembly of each of the twenty-eight states and three union territories. Similarly a chairperson heads the Rajya Sabha and the legislative council of each of the six states, where the upper house in the state legislature exists.
Pursuant to Article 75(3), the Council of Ministers is responsible collectively to the lower house of the Indian parliament, called the Lok Sabha (House of the People). [4] The council of ministers upon losing the confidence of Lok Sabha shall resign to facilitate the formation of a new council.
The council of ministers which was sworn-in into office on 31 May 2019 consisted of 24 ministers with cabinet rank, 9 ministers of state with independent charge, and 24 ministers of state.
