The War Memorial Opera House is an opera house in San Francisco, California, located on the western side of Van Ness Avenue across from the west side/rear facade of the San Francisco City Hall. It is part of the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center. It has been the home of the San Francisco Opera since opening night in 1932.
During the nine years following the opening season, the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House was designed by Arthur Brown Jr. San Francisco Opera programs, 1934–36. Later, it was a showcase for Theatre Guild presentations. Subsequently, it became closely associated with the San Francisco Civic Light Opera (CLO), which also operated the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera. The CLO obtained numerous prestigious bookings and produced their own shows, often with stars as the lead roles.
The San Francisco Opera production was filmed for later television relay, which occurred in late 2013, and was subsequently released on DVD. Jay Hunter Morris was Ahab, and many others in the cast recreated their roles of the Dallas premiere, including Morgan Smith, Stephen Costello and Jonathan Lemalu, as well as conductor Patrick Summers.
The upper floors of the Veterans Building housed the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (formerly the San Francisco Museum of Art) from 1935 to 1994. [2] In 1980 the new Louise M. The Bayview Opera House, formerly known as the South San Francisco Opera House, is a theatre at 4705 3rd Street in the Bayview-Hunters Point district in San Francisco, California, United States. [5] Founded in 1888, it is reputed to be the oldest existing theatre in the city. From 2014 to 2016, the theatre underwent renovation.
