Wright State University is a public research university in Fairborn, Ohio, United States. Originally opened in 1964 as a branch campus of Miami University and Ohio State University , it became an independent institution in 1967 and was named in honor of aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright , who were residents of nearby Dayton .

Wright State was founded in 1964 as a branch campus of both Miami University (Ohio) and Ohio State University.The school began its athletic program in 1968 as an NCAA Division II school, where the athletics program achieved great success, having over 200 All-American athletes and winning the 1983 Division II Men's Basketball national championship.
The Wright State–Lake (WSULC) athletic teams are called the Lakers. The university is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). WSULC competes in three intercollegiate varsity sports: Men's sports include baseball and basketball; while women's sports include basketball.
The 1972–73 Wright State Raiders men's basketball team, led by head coach John Ross, represented Wright State University in the 1972-73 NCAA College Division men's basketball season.
