NC 690 is a 19.3-mile (31.1 km) two-lane rural highway that begins in Vass and ends near Spring Lake. The highway passes through mostly forest and farmland, some of which within the confines of Fort Liberty, with the Woodlake private gated community just five miles (8.0 km) east of Vass.

Long Valley Farm is a historic farm and national historic district located in Carvers Creek State Park near Spring Lake in Cumberland County and Harnett County, North Carolina. It encompasses 24 contributing buildings and 5 contributing structures on a winter agricultural estate.
In 1881 the community was reincorporated as White Hall. That year a hotel and resort opened to bring customers to seven mineral springs in the town's vicinity. The resort closed in 1944. In 1951 the town was renamed Seven Springs. [5] Seven Springs' population peaked in 1960 with 207 residents.
The town derives its name from the nearly 50 springs and lakes in the area. The main spring, Boiling Spring, discharges approximately 43 millions gallons of water per day.
