Salsa romántica (Spanish of 'romantic salsa') is a soft form of salsa music that emerged between the mid-1980s and early 1990s in New York City, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. It has been criticised for it being supposedly a pale imitation of "real" salsa, often called " salsa dura ".
From this album songs such as Ella Se Hizo Deseo, Sensual and Siempre Sere stand out. It is currently considered one of the most notable musical comebacks in salsa history, after stalling his career on the album of the same name Tito Rojas in 1981. His hit Siempre Seré ranked number 35 in tropical songs on the Billboard charts in 1990. [3]
In 1987 and 1989, he had hits with the salsa versions of the ballads Noche de Bodas (Wedding Night), and Quiereme Tal Como Soy (Love me the way I am). These were accomplished after he joined the "Puerto Rican Power" band. In 1990, Rojas went solo and recorded Sensual (1990), Condename (1992), and A Mi Estilo (At My Style) (1994).
The term "salsa" was coined by Johnny Pacheco in the 1960s in New York, as an umbrella term for Cuban dance music being played in the city at the time. [2] Salsa as a dance emerged soon after, being a combination of mambo (which was popular in New York in the 1950s) as well as Latin dances such as Son and Rumba as well as American dances such as swing, hustle, and tap.
The mambo dance that was spearheaded by Pérez Prado and was popular in the 1940s and 1950s in Cuba, Mexico, and New York is completely different from the modern dance that New Yorkers now call "mambo" and which is also known as salsa "on 2". "Everybody Salsa" was originally a UK hit for Modern Romance in 1981 and was included on their debut album, Adventures in Clubland (1981) as part of the Clubland Mix along with "Ay Ay Ay Ay Moosey", "Salsa Rappsody", and "Moose on the Loose". It was one of the few Modern Romance records to feature drummer, Tony Gainsborough.
