Knox's Headquarters State Historic Site, in the town of New Windsor in Orange County, New York, consists of the Georgian house of the Ellison family, built in 1754 by immigrant William Bull [3] [4] of Hamptonburgh, NY, and the grounds around it. The site is located on Old Forge Hill Road, just south of Route 94 east of Vails Gate.
NY 300 begins at a five-pronged junction with NY 32 and NY 94 in the hamlet of Vails Gate, also known as the Five Corners.The route heads north as Temple Hill Road, paralleling the New York State Thruway as it passes the New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site, where George Washington dismissed the Continental Army in 1783.
The Warwick–Florida portion of the route also became part of NY 45, a new route extending from the New Jersey state line to Vails Gate via Warwick, Florida, and Washingtonville. At Vails Gate , the road changed designations to NY 307 and continued northeast to Newburgh. [2] NY 307 became part of an extended NY 45 by the following year. [10]
