Stamford is a city on the border of Jones and Haskell counties in west-central Texas, United States.The population was 2,907 at the 2020 census. [3] Henry McHarg, president of the Texas Central Railroad, named the site in 1900 for his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut. [4]

First Baptist Church is a Baptist church at E. Oliver and N. Swenson in Stamford, Texas.It is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.Built in 1908, the church is a large, domed structure built on a Greek Cross form and covered with buff-colored brick.
Stamford High School is a public high school located in Stamford, Texas and classified as a 2A school by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). It is part of the Stamford Independent School District located in north central Jones County. In 2013, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. [2]

Lake Stamford, a reservoir formed by Stamford Dam, is located 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Stamford, Texas, in southeastern Haskell County. The lake had a storage capacity in 1999 of 51,573 acre-feet (63,614,000 m 3 ) and drains an area of 368 square miles (950 km 2 ).
Stamford High School won state football championships in 1955, 1956, 1958, 2012, and 2013. The team also won the 1959 game over Brady , but was forced to forfeit the game, the first instance in UIL football history (and only one of two such instances) where the championship was later forfeited.
Opened on 1 April 1941, the school was known as Arledge Field or Stamford-Arledge Field, [3] and it was assigned to United States Army Air Forces Gulf Coast Training Center (later Central Flying Training Command) 31st Flying Training Wing as a primary (level 1) pilot training airfield. [4]
