Café Guerbois, on Avenue de Clichy in Paris, was the site of late 19th-century discussions and planning amongst artists, writers and art lovers – the bohèmes (bohemians), in contrast to the bourgeois. Centered on Édouard Manet, the group gathered at the café usually on Sundays and Thursdays.
The café was bought by Jean Louis Hilbert between the two wars and took the name La Palette in 1950. [1] The establishment has two rooms: the tiny bar room, and the larger back room (which used to be a billiard hall [2]) that is adorned with ceramics of the 1930–40s and numerous paintings.
