Hengchun has a land area of 136.76 km 2 (52.80 sq mi) and has a population of 29,702 as of February 2024. The city of Hengchun is the entryway to Kenting National Park, the southernmost National Park in the country. With pristine beaches and a vibrant tourist industry, the Hengchun area often attracts more travelers than local residents.
Only the settlements near present-day Checheng Township existed. In 1664, the Hakka settlers arrived from mainland China and farmed under a homesteading system introduced by Zheng Jing . Pingtung City, the biggest city in Pingtung County, also known as "A-Kau" (阿猴; A-kâu , English: the forest), was the home of Taiwanese Plains Aborigines .
The Central Weather Bureau issued a heavy rainfall warning for Kaohsiung, Pingtung County and the Hengchun Peninsula, and a sea warning for the northern and eastern coasts of the country as In-fa's periphery neared; the former was canceled at 02:05 UTC (10:05 TST).
The following day, the Central Weather Bureau issued a land warning for the Hengchun Peninsula as Parma moved over the northern Philippines. Residents in the region were advised to prepare for heavy rains and high winds in relation to the storm. [29]
