The college began with 231 students in high schools and military installations with administrative offices located at Billy Mitchell Village. As of 2007–2008, the college had 7,662 students enrolled. The college is set on nearly 126 acres (0.51 km 2) of land. Palo Alto College has over 100 staff members and full-time faculty members.
The 35-acre property belongs to the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD), and is leased to the City of Palo Alto. [3] The larger remainder of this site, (approx. 39,000 square feet) was leased since 2002 to the Foothill-De Anza College District for the Middlefield Campus of Foothill College, a local community college. Palo Alto University traces its origins back to 1975 when the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology was founded in Palo Alto. PGSP was established by a group of students and faculty seeking to enhance their knowledge of clinical psychology, with Robert Kantor serving as its first president. In 1984, PGSP welcomed Allen Calvin as its president.
The school was founded in 1996 by Bischof and Helen Kim, the vice principal, who met while students at Stanford University. [3] It began with eight students who were taught at a picnic table in an East Palo Alto park, [1] [3] moving the next year to a house, [1] then to offices, and finally to 1.6 acres of donated land where it was first housed in temporary buildings. Originally called Eton Park and was renamed for a former Palo Alto Postmaster in 1968. [4] Frederick W. Weisshaar Park, also on Dartmouth Street between College Avenue and South California Avenue. Originally called Hampton Park it was renamed in 1968 for an earlier owner of the College Terrace land.
When INTL and Alto finalized their merger at the end of 2020 and start of 2021, the two campuses became one school under the banner of INTL with Alto's campus becoming INTL's Willows Campus alongside of the INTL Cohn Campus. The college opened in 1985 and is located in the Southside of San Antonio. In 1987, he was awarded the first Palo Alto College Teaching Excellence Award ($2,000/laptop) voted at-large by the Faculty Senate, and the following year, the National Council of Teachers of English awarded him the English Journal Writing Award.
