Newaygo State Park is a public recreation area covering 400 acres (160 ha) on the south side of Hardy Dam Pond in Big Prairie Township, Newaygo County, Michigan.The state park sits atop 20-foot (6.1 m) embankments overlooking the six-mile-long (10 km), 4,000-acre (1,600 ha) impoundment of the Muskegon River.

Hardy Dam (or Hardy Hydroelectric Plant) is an earth-filled embankment dam and powerplant complex on the Muskegon River in Big Prairie Township, Newaygo County, Michigan. At the time of its completion, it was the largest earthen dam in North America east of the Mississippi. Its impoundment forms a lake with over 50 miles of shoreline.
Originally located near West Olive (Port Sheldon) on Lake Michigan (1916–1927) it re-located to Duck Lake, near Whitehall, Michigan, in 1927 the property was acquired by the Nature Conservancy in the early 1970s and is now part of Duck Lake State Park. The Muskegon River (/ m ə ˈ s k iː ɡ ən / mə-SKEE-gən) is a 216-mile-long (348 km) [1] river in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan.From its source at Houghton Lake in Roscommon County, the river flows in a generally southwesterly direction to its mouth at Lake Michigan at the eponymous city of Muskegon.
The park is 723 acres (2.93 km 2) in area and has 214 camping sites distributed across a "north" and "south" campground, and one cabin. The north campground has larger lots which can accommodate larger trailers than the south campground. There is a six-mile (10 km) nature trail, as well as picnic areas, a beach with boat rentals, and a camp store.
Yankee Springs State Recreation Area is a state-managed protected area located in Yankee Springs Township in Barry County, Michigan. The park is 5,200 acres (21 km 2) in area. It has 120 rustic, 200 modern and 25 equestrian camping sites, plus two cabins.
