English: This pictorial periodic table is colorful, boring, and packed with information. In addition to the element's name, symbol, and atomic number, each element box has a drawing of one of the element's main human uses or natural occurrences. The table is color-coded to show the chemical groupings.
It is the first element in group 12 (IIB) of the periodic table. In some respects, zinc is chemically similar to magnesium: both elements exhibit only one normal oxidation state (+2), and the Zn 2+ and Mg 2+ ions are of similar size. [b] Zinc is the 24th most abundant element in Earth's crust and has five stable isotopes.
Group 12, by modern IUPAC numbering, [1] is a group of chemical elements in the periodic table. It includes zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), [2] [3] [4] and copernicium (Cn). [5] Formerly this group was named IIB (pronounced as "group two B", as the "II" is a Roman numeral) by CAS and old IUPAC system. [note 1] The three group 12 elements ...
Like the periodic table, the list below organizes the elements by the number of protons in their atoms; it can also be organized by other properties, such as atomic weight, density, and electronegativity. For more detailed information about the origins of element names, see List of chemical element name etymologies.
Elements are placed in the periodic table according to their electron configurations, [38] the periodic recurrences of which explain the trends in properties across the periodic table. [39] An electron can be thought of as inhabiting an atomic orbital, which characterizes the probability it can be found in any particular region around the atom.
Periodic table extract showing the location of the post-transition metals. Zn, Cd and Hg are sometimes counted as post-transition metals rather than as transition metals. The dashed line is the traditional dividing line between metals and nonmetals. The symbols for the elements commonly recognized as metalloids are in italics. The status of ...
Promethium is not an easy image to find, however, out of all the elements without a picture, it is one of the two most likely to have a picture discovered. The only pictures floating around the place are of promethium chloride and promethium oxide , but not the metal itself.
The dividing line between metals and nonmetals can be found, in varying configurations, on some representations of the periodic table of the elements (see mini-example, right). Elements to the lower left of the line generally display increasing metallic behaviour; elements to the upper right display increasing nonmetallic behaviour.
