The training of CSOs continues at assigned battalions for another 18 months. CSOs may qualify for advanced training and certifications in areas such as foreign language and emergency medical care based on future assignments. Many departments authorize their CSOs to issue traffic and civil infraction citations in the course of crash investigations. At some agencies, the first year of the job is primarily clerical, with little field work. Upon completion of training, USAF CSOs receive basic CSO wings.
