Weymouth (/ ˈ w eɪ m ə θ / WAY-məth [1]) is a seaside town and civil parish in the Dorset district, in the ceremonial county of Dorset, England.Situated on a sheltered bay at the mouth of the River Wey, 7 miles (11 km) south of the county town of Dorchester, Weymouth had a population of 53,416 in 2021.
The Battle of Weymouth and the associated Crabchurch Conspiracy occurred in 1645, during the First English Civil War, when several royalist plotters within the twin towns of Weymouth and Melcombe on the Dorset coast conspired to deliver the ports back into the control of King Charles I.

Weymouth Old Town Hall is a former town hall at Weymouth, Dorset, England. The building, which was built with Portland stone in the 1770s, has been Grade II listed since 1953. [1] The bell turret is believed to date from the 17th century. [2] Since 2009, the hall has been operated for community use by the Guardians of the Old Town Hall. [3]
Weymouth Museum was founded in 1972 and originally occupied the former Melcombe Regis Boys' School at Westham Road. [1] Following the school's closure in the 1960s, it was used to host a temporary local history exhibition in 1971, which had been set up by Jack West of Weymouth Library.
