Tower of Power (TOP) is an American rhythm and blues band from Oakland, California.Formed in August 1968, the group is centred on a horn section which originally featured tenor saxophonists Emilio "Mimi" Castillo and Steven "Skip" Mesquite, baritone saxophonist Stephen "Doc" Kupka, and trumpeters Greg Adams, David Padron, Mic Gillette and Ken Balzell.

Leonard Charles Williams (born February 16, 1945) [1] is an American singer-songwriter and musician, best known as the lead vocalist for the soul/funk group Tower of Power in the early 1970s. As a solo artist, Williams made several hit recordings, including 1978's "Cause I Love You" and 1977's "Choosing You".
Bruce Anthony Conte (March 3, 1950 – August 8, 2021) was an American R&B and jazz fusion guitarist, known primarily for his work with the band Tower of Power, of which he was a member from 1972 to 1979. He performed on seven albums, and rejoined the band for live work briefly in 2006-2007.
In the 1970s and early 1980s, Pickett led the horn section for Tower of Power, an innovative and funk band from the East San Francisco Bay area. He was also a frequent session band member that backed many musicians in multiple genres, from Elton John to musicians in the soul music, rhythm and blues, and funk music genres. [4]
Victor Conte Jr. was born in 1950 in Fresno to Shirley and Victor Conte Sr. He is the oldest of three children in a working-class Italian family. [2] After graduating from McLane High School [3] he attended Fresno City College but dropped out of college in 1969 after being convinced by his cousin, musician Bruce Conte, to join the band Common Ground as its bass player.
Jeffries started his career as part of the California band known as The Two Things in One [2] and scored a regional hit with the 1973 single "Together Forever". It would lead to his stint with Tower of Power [2] starting with 1978's We Came to Play! and he would stay with the band through the mid-1980s, making his tenure with Tower of Power the second longest as lead vocalist, behind Larry Braggs.
