On 4 July 1992 the Lithuanian Navy was re-established and Juozapas Algis Leisis was appointed as a commander of the Coast Guard Squadron. The first commissioned ship in the Lithuanian Navy was the A41 Vėtra, which at that point belonged to the Klaipėda harbour administration. Vėtra was used for SAR and supply operations.
